The Ring White Collar Boxing at Marquee Singapore

The White Collar Boxing finals were organised by The Ring, and it concluded in a gala at Marquee Singapore at Marina Bay Sands. The space was decked out to include a full-sized ring, Ring Girls, and a half-time spectacle with the SLAP Dance Studio and STNY brothers. There were two professional fights — the WBO Title Belt Female and Male — as well as nine amateur contests.

Before being permitted on, amateur boxers, who came from all walks of life, had to train for at least 12 weeks with approved trainers. An auction of signed memorabilia from that evening netted $44,000 to benefit Halogen Foundation. Winners of Fight of the Year (Jerome Sanoner) and Fighter of the Night (Tao Huang) also received honours.

Celebrating Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s first standalone boutique in Singapore

Award-winning perfumer Francis Kurkdjian is best recognised for his works for Elizabeth Arden, Elie Saab, Burberry, Nina Ricci, Narciso Rodriguez, and Jean Paul Gaultier. Maison Francis Kurkdjian has only been around since 2009 but is already a beloved participant in the luxury fragrance market. Guests of a+ were invited to celebrate its new Singapore boutique with champagne and canapés, while having a go at the house’s best-selling fragrances.

A Penhaligon’s experience

Guests were transported into Penhaligon’s olfactory universe that was staged at the enchanted Isabel Bar at the The Maxwell Reserve Hotel. As they sipped on three specially-crafted cocktails based on Penhaligon’s fragrances — Lord George, Duchess Rose, and The Favourite — guests learnt about the history of the venerable brand and its top-selling scents. They were also able to customise greeting cards as well as their personal fragrance. As door gifts, each guest received a candle and perfumed handkerchief.

Kidz Horizon Appeal Fund

For the 17th iteration of the Kidz Horizon Appeal Fund, the ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore was themed to Studio 54. The evening was graced by Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Trade and Industry, and raised more than $1 million for the KKH Health Fund, aimed at addressing the medical needs of the most vulnerable members of society: needy children with chronic illnesses. Since its inception, the Kidz Horizon Appeal Fund has been able to generate more than $14 million benefitting more than 1,400 needy patients.

Hands on at Guerlain

Guerlain is one of the oldest skincare, cosmetics, and fragrance brands in the world. Guests of a+ were invited to test out the new face colours from the French brand’s holiday collection. They also participated in an exclusive beauty session with Mandy Lok, Guerlain’s in-house makeup artist, where they learnt more about the line’s famed products. As part of the curated Christmas experience, guests had a hand in designing and personalising their own star ornaments.

Partying with a+

As the year comes to a close, a+ hosted a small luncheon and cocktail party in partnership with One Farrer Hotel to honour and celebrate the continuous support received thus far. The hotel’s new Saranggong Villa Series wing introducing three villas. Wisteria and Camellia are separated with a retractable wall and can be joined into one larger space, while Dahlia includes a small exterior garden with a jacuzzi, a cold plunge pool, and a heated pool — all accessible to guests for the entire day.

A four-course meal was served, with the selection included Citrus-cured Scottish Salmon, Butternut Squash Veloute, Miso Seabass or La Maison Bresse Roulade, and Chocolate Millefueille. A fruity South African red (Leopard’s Leap Shiraz), a medium-bodied white (Leopard’s Leap Chardonnay), and a crisp French Champagne (Lanson’s Le Black Label Brut) were served as complementary beverages.

Wisteria and Camellia were turned into a cosy cocktail setting with lounge sofas, cocktail tables, and soft lighting for the evening. A resident DJ was spinning a variety of old-school soul and pulsing disco tracks, while a roving mentalist entertained guests. Appetisers such as Tandoori Chicken, Cured Salmon with Black Caviar, Citrus Profiteroles, Battered Tiger Prawns, Asian Pulled Pork on Steamed Buns were served as the cocktails poured on.

Guests struck pose after pose in front of the massive photo wall by Print Lab. A lucky draw was the evening’s high point, but no one left empty-handed. Each guest went home with a goodie bag filled with skincare, haircare, and wellness supplies from generous sponsors BioEffect, Fort Sanctuary, Jyunka, and Leonica K.
