La Vache! is an excellent choice when you don’t want to overthink dinner. This Parisian-style steakhouse on Gemmill Lane opened in August with only one menu.
Taking its name from the French expression “holy cow!”, La Vache! is a Hong Kong brand with four outlets back home. Singapore, its first overseas outpost, delivers a vibrant experience with red-leather banquettes, oak panelling, and brass fixtures, while lively Parisian everyday scenes deck the walls and tabletops.

Despite the no-fuss menu, our meal did not disappoint. After a crusty baguette and a crisp salad of organic greens and walnuts, our 280-g USDA Double Gold Ribeye arrived. Each steak was seared to desired doneness (we recommend medium rare), and served with the restaurant’s bearnaise sauce and unlimited fries.
Business Development Manager Reuben Davis, who also leads its culinary direction, explained that fresh ribeyes are flown in every two days from the US, after which they are wet-aged for at least 60 days. “We look for cuts rich in flavour, with just the right amount of fat and marbling.”
To complement the food, there is a short, thoughtfully curated wine list, featuring bold Bordeaux wines, bright Burgundies, and crisp petit chablis. With the steak, the house wine—a medium to full-bodied blend of merlot, cabernet franc, and cabernet sauvignon—was perfect.

The dessert trolley, filled with irresistible home-made French classics like profiteroles, lemon meringue tart, and raspberry millefeuille, along with gelato or sorbet, was the other highlight of our evening.
While Davis suggested the restaurant maintains quality and consistency with only one set menu, it also reveals a desire for comfort food based on culinary traditions. “As diners now value sincerity and craftsmanship more than ever, there is a renewed appreciation for the classics, for honest, timeless dishes prepared with heart and skill.”
