A lot can happen in two centuries. Greatness is one. When Alexander Reid first licensed the distillery on the banks of the River Spey in Scotland in 1824, little did he know that his whisky would become of the most sought after in the world. Two hundred years later, Reid’s curiously small stills remain the bedrock of The Macallan, along with its natural colour, exceptional oak casks, and more.

The latter is the star of The Macallan’s Journey Through Time series, held from now until 30 April at several participating bars. The house has tapped on the talents of some of the best bartenders in the country to reimagine three classic cocktails—The Old Fashioned, Rob Roy and The Boulevardier—using The Macallan Double Cask range.

Each cocktail flight will have three renditions, Past, Present, and Future, to showcase the versatility of the whisky. One flight of three cocktails begin from $58.

The Old Fashioned

Possibly the best cocktail to showcase the wood and spirit of the Double Cask, The Old Fashioned is served at HighHouse, MO Bar, 28 Hong Kong Street, and White Shades. Its simplicity—there are only three ingredients in the classic recipe—and legacy make it the best base for The Macallan’s long history and forward-thinking approach.

The Rob Roy

Named after Scottish folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor, the Rob Roy cocktail might not boast the same familiarity as the Old Fashioned, but still possesses a similar elegance and sophistication. Instead of sugar, the original recipe calls for sweet vermouth to bring out the whisky’s complexity. Variants of the Rob Roy for Journey Through Time are available at The Macallan House and Night Hawk.

The Boulevardier

It’s extremely fun to pronounce and even more fun to drink. The Boulevardier originated in Paris in the 1920s before being lost to history, and only reemerged in the late noughties when cocktails became popular once again. For this series, Punch Room at The Singapore Edition is creating its own contemporary twist of the Boulevardier cocktail using The Macallan Double Cask whiskies.

The Macallan’s Journey Through Time is ongoing from now until Apr 30.
