Aside from the flurry of festive soirees, the end of year is also a good time for quiet reflection and togetherness. For The Macallan, 2024 marks a landmark year with its 200th anniversary celebration. And what better way to round up the milestone centennial than with a new whisky launch?

A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera is the third release in the whisky maker’s A Night on Earth Series. As its name suggests, the limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky is an ode to the city in southern Spain’s Andalusia region, where The Macallan’s cask journey began. Here, sherry seasoned oak casks undergo the almost magical process of maturation, laying the foundation for the precious whisky that follows.

Matured in a perfectly balanced combination of European and American sherry seasoned oak casks that are produced to The Macallan’s exacting specifications, the single malt Scotch whisky delivers a blend of richness and sweetness on the palate. It is a tribute to the Spanish custom of eating 12 grapes before the start of the New Year and the traditional Jerez pastry, Pestiños – a rich, fried dough with sugar and aniseed or honey; its tasting notes consists of pastry, grapes, and anise.

Perfect for Christmas and New Year’s Eve get-togethers, this exclusive release captures the essence of the season that marks the end of the year in southern Spain. Inspired by the warmth and vibrancy of Jerez’s traditions, A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera makes a unique gift that embodies the spirit of festivity and renewal.

The designs that adorn the release are as distinctive as the whisky itself. The result of a collaboration between The Macallan and artist María Melero, it reflects her memories of the festive period in her native city of Jerez.

Steven Bremner, The Macallan’s Whisky Maker, says: “Jerez plays a crucial role in The Macallan’s past, present, and future. As a whisky maker, having been able to tell part of that story through a whisky has been wonderfully rewarding. A combination of European and American sherry seasoned casks has enabled us to capture the flavours, traditions, and María’s memories of the New Year in Jerez de la Frontera, the home of sherry wine.”
