An evening with Aigner

An evening with Aigner

Until recently, few among the luxury set knew that Kate Moss fronted the Aigner autumn/winter 2022 collection. The brand is experiencing a resurgence of sorts. During a casual but informative style workshop, the brand introduced its new collection to a small group of a+ guests. Veteran stylist, Furqan Saini, hosted the event and had the guests in stitches with his sartorial bon mots.

87th George Washington Ball

The 87th George Washington Ball was presented by the American Association of Singapore (AAS) with the theme of ‘Hollywood Glamour’, complete with life-sized movie celebrity standees, a star-studded red carpet, and the presence of US Ambassador to Singapore Jonathan Kaplan. The annual event is held “to commemorate the ideas of our founders—equality, liberty, justice, rights and opportunity, and to join in the pursuit of happiness,” according to AAS President Blair Parks Hall Junior. The attendees were dressed to the nines in tuxedos and slinky, sparkly gowns. Before the main course was even finished and well into the early hours of the morning, the guests were on the dance floor to Band on the Run’s contagious live music. A raffle, live auction, and silent auction netted $30,000 to benefit the Kidz Horizon Appeal, a charity that attends specifically to the medical needs of children with chronic illnesses.

21st Wild Rice Ball

Wild Rice’s annual Rice Ball returns for a 21st edition with the theme, ‘The Legendary Ball’. Nothing was taboo, everything was an inspiration—the ball brought out the exhibitionist in each guest. The ballroom was filled with Beatrix “the Bride” Kiddo aka Black Mambo, Catwoman, President JF Kennedy (with a botched facelift), the Joker, Miss Singapore Universe 2022 complete with the 3-D orchid motif, a few Karls and Annas (Wintour, that is), Marilyns, Cleopatras, Holly Golightlys, Star Wars characters, and various Chinese and Greek mythological figures. Among the performers were Alemay Fernandez and Sean Ghazi, as well as a hilarious skit by Glen Goei (White Snake) and Ivan Heng (Green Snake) who traded musing jabs about plastic surgery. The fun and riotous evening raised $842,000.

Yellow Ribbon Charity Fund Gala

This year’s fundraising gala for the Yellow Ribbon Fund (YRF) is themed ‘Reflections—Celebrating Milestones and Beyond’. Giving former offenders second chances and helping their families are the goals of this fund-raising campaign. The YRF STAR (Skills Training Assistance to Restart) Bursary—one of its flagship programmes—helps by improving the employability of ex-offenders and to promote self-sufficiency. Additionally, it actively assists low-income ex-offenders in their efforts to advance their education. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, graced the occasion as Guest-of-Honour. He emphasised in his speech that YRF captures the essence of constructing “an inclusive and uplifting society” and the strength of the community, with “employers, volunteers, individuals and corporate donors, social workers and ex-inmates themselves, pulling together and motivating each other”. The evening’s programme included a live and silent auction as well as musical performances by the ex-offenders-only Performing Arts Centre. For the YRF, a total of $1,468,111 was raised.
