Sexy — that sums up the Saint Laurent autumn/winter 2022 womenswear collection. The collection isn’t replete with skin-baring designs. Save for a few sheer ready-to-wear looks with visible nipples (par for the course on Parisian runways), the collection had models almost entirely covered in slinky, luxurious fabrics.
The aesthetic feels like an extension of creative director Anthony Vaccarello’s offering for the previous season. Floor-grazing bias-cut dresses comprised the bulk of the latest collection. A single tone dominates each piece, complete with sleeves that hug every curve right up to the wrist. An assortment of chunky bracelets embellished a few looks, adding visual heft but executed with undeniable chic.
Most importantly, it’s an exercise in restraint. The monochromatic palette echoes the long-established Yves Saint Laurent ethos that less is evidently more. A focus on silhouette — long, flowy and sharp — exudes the kind of sexiness that defies the typical visually overt interpretation that’s often superficial in essence. Vaccarello’s refined approach is founded on confidence. What else could be sexier on a woman?
In celebration of Saint Laurent’s newly refined sexy, a special pop-up is appearing for a limited time. Apart from showcasing the best from the autumn/ winter 2022 womenswear collection, the pop-up will also house exclusive pieces. The aforementioned chunky bracelets will be available in extra luxurious treatments, coupled with heels in variations that complement the main collection.
The key bags of the collection bear the same minimalist approach. Sleek leather clutches and pochettes are designed in slim proportions and accented with gold hardware. For those who favour the classic YSL logo, they’re beautifully adorned on the Le 57 shoulder bag and the Icare maxi shopping bag — both crafted exquisitely from soft quilted lambskin.
The Saint Laurent autumn/winter 2022 pop-up runs from 7 to 17 October 2022 at Ion Orchard’s Level 1 Atrium.
