Gucci closed off 2022 with the announcement that it’s parting ways with creative director Alessandro Michele—a seven-year run that saw the Italian fashion house celebrating its more eclectic, vibrant and maximalist sides.

While there’s no word on who is set to take on the creative reins at Gucci, the house is readying its first post-Michele era with an autumn/winter 2023 menswear collection during Milan Fashion Week Men’s. This will also be the first separate menswear runway show by Gucci since autumn/winter 2017 when co-ed runways shows became part of its strategy.

If the teasers are anything to go by, the autumn/winter 2023 menswear collection seems to be focusing on the house’s brand signifiers: the three-stripe webbing as well as the GG monogram. The latter specifically, appears to be its coated canvas iteration and perhaps reinterpreted in more sustainable ways—a vision that was announced during Michele’s time at Gucci.

There’s no telling for sure what the new Gucci will be. But one thing’s for sure, it will be a departure from Michele’s more-is-more aesthetic and probably more succinct and focused than ever.
