Grand Seiko has made a habit of stealing the spotlight at Watches and Wonders Geneva, and this year was no exception. The debut of the SLGC007 Tentagraph—a high-beat mechanical chronograph in the Evolution 9 Collection—once again reminded collectors why the Japanese watchmaker commands such reverence. It is a watch that marries precision engineering with a lyricism drawn from nature, a balance of rigour and poetry that has become Grand Seiko’s signature.
The SLGC007 takes direct inspiration from the snow-covered ridges of Mount Iwate, locally known as Nanbu Fuji (Southern Fuji). This towering peak dominates the skyline near the Shizukuishi Watch Studio, where Grand Seiko creates its mechanical watches. Its two-layer dial shimmers in a snow blue hue, reminiscent of freshly fallen snow beneath clear winter skies. The contrasting black subdials represent the mountain’s rugged surfaces peeking through the frost, resulting in a dial that is both visually rich and deeply symbolic.

The interplay of light and shadow highlights Grand Seiko’s philosophy of “The Nature of Time.” Every glance at the dial serves as a reminder of Japan’s seasonal beauty. The redesigned indexes and hands, reflecting the Evolution 9 design language, ensure exceptional clarity.
At the heart of the SLGC007 lies the 9SC5 calibre, a high-frequency movement that operates at 10 beats per second. This high-frequency heartbeat guarantees exceptional precision and provides a robust 72-hour power reserve. These impressive specifications position the Tentagraph among the most advanced chronographs in modern watchmaking.
The movement features a column wheel and vertical clutch system, enhancing both reliability and durability in chronograph operation. Through the sapphire caseback, collectors can appreciate the meticulous construction and finishing that characterises Grand Seiko’s mechanical craftsmanship.

Measuring 43.2mm in diameter and 15.3mm thick, the case is made from high-intensity titanium. This choice of metal provides the watch with exceptional strength while keeping it remarkably lightweight on the wrist. Additionally, a ceramic bezel offers scratch resistance and adds a contemporary edge to the design.
The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres and resistant to magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m, ensuring it can withstand the rigours of daily wear without sacrificing refinement. The combination of polished and brushed surfaces on the watch’s case reflects the brand’s renowned Zaratsu finishing, creating crisp lines and mirror-like facets that beautifully interact with light at every turn of the wrist.
The SLGC007 embodies the Evolution 9 Collection’s core principles: legibility, comfort, and beauty. Its sculpted hands and prominent indexes maximise readability at a glance, even when visibility conditions are challenging. The case’s ergonomic design ensures an easy, balanced fit on the wrist, while the integrated bracelet with a three-fold clasp adds security, durability and versatility. In this watch, Grand Seiko balances technical mastery with design innovation, proving that form and function can coexist in elegant harmony.
The SLGC007 is available at all Grand Seiko Boutiques, including the Grand Seiko Salon – Watches of Switzerland at Jewel Changi Airport. More than an opportunity to view a timepiece, it represents a chance to connect with the brand’s philosophy of precision and its dialogue with nature. In this setting, the Tentagraph reflects Grand Seiko’s vision of watchmaking as both art and science, an approach that resonates with collectors around the world.
The SLGC007 is more than a chronograph: it stands as a celebration of the winter landscapes at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio, Japanese artistry, and uncompromising precision. It highlights Grand Seiko’s momentum as a global brand, one that continues to shape the future of watchmaking by drawing strength and inspiration from its roots.
