Moments In Time

“Every second flows like cherry blossoms in the breeze”, as the invitation promised. All Together Now

Down Syndrome Association Singapore’s World Down Syndrome Day Carnival in March drew families, supporters, schools, and the public in a heartwarming celebration of empowerment and encouragement. Everyone enjoyed the fun performances and exciting activities, including a Singapore Book of Records attempt for the largest number of mismatched socks (231!). This year’s event also included the inaugural DSA Awards, which recognise artistic, advocacy, educational, and athletic achievements and contributions of persons with Down Syndrome. World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated every year on 21 March.

Winning Hearts & Minds

In March, the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) inducted five individuals into its Hall of Fame. Angelene Chan (architect); Maud Ethel Perera (public health pioneer, posthumously); Meira Chand (novelist); Pauline Tan (nursing leader), and Shalini Arulanandam (military doctor) were recognised for their achievements and endeavours in shaping our society. “The Hall of Fame is not only about acknowledging the women who have preceded us,” says Dr Seow Yian San, President of SCWO, “but also about inspiring future generations to lead with courage, purpose and conviction.”
