There were a few things that were highly noticeable at the 80th Golden Globe Awards red carpet. Nominees, presenters and attendees largely gravitated towards black ensembles, and did so with such masterful panache. Natasha Lyonne opted for a shoulder-sculpted Givenchy dress that was simply accessorised with chunky jewellery, while Wednesday‘s Percy Hynes White made quite a powerful style statement in Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello’s take on an all-black tuxedo.

While the usual big-named luxury fashion houses were present on the Golden Globes red carpet—Gucci dressed nominees Ana de Armas and Michelle Williams, ‘Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama’ winner Austin Butler and more—it was the smaller fashion brands that shone the brightest.

House of the Dragon‘s Emma D’Arcy took to the red carpet in a bespoke autumn/winter 2023 Acne Studios menswear suiting look that comprised of an oversized blazer and finished off with striking purple gloves. Then there was Tyler James Williams—’Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series – Musical-Comedy or Drama’ winner—in a beautifully cut Amiri suit consisting of a cropped blazer that created an oddly satisfying illusionary effect.

If this is how the official opening of the television and film award show season is shaping out to be on the sartorial front, there’ll be plenty to look forward on the red carpets to come.
