As an entrepreneur, I’ve learnt that being a leader is not just about running a business, but also about empowering myself and my team to be the best versions of ourselves, and over the years, I’ve implemented a few self-empowering practices that have helped me become a better leader. While they may not work for everyone, I hope that by sharing my personal experience, some people may be able to relate and find inspiration in their own leadership journey.
Firstly, cultivate a growth mindset. To me, success requires a willingness to embrace challenges, learn from failures, and seek new opportunities for growth. As such, I make a conscious effort to continuously learn something new.
Even though I’d love to know everything in this world, the reality is that I don’t, but in times of adversity or failure, I remind myself that it’s an opportunity to learn and improve. By embracing this mentality, I can model resilience and adaptability for my team, which also changes the way we tackle challenges.
Secondly, prioritise self-care. It’s easy to get caught up in the demands of the job and neglect our needs, but I’ve found that prioritising my own well-being benefits my productivity and creativity. Self-care includes regular exercise, taking breaks throughout the day to recharge, and setting boundaries.
Lastly, embrace vulnerability and seek feedback. As leaders, we might think that we need to have all the answers and that we always have to present confidence. However, I’ve found that embracing vulnerability and seeking feedback actually makes me a more effective leader.
By acknowledging my own limitations and seeking input from others, I can identify blind spots and make better-informed decisions. In addition, by demonstrating vulnerability and open communication, I create a culture of trust and collaboration within my team.
