Since the first Serpenti Tubogas jewellery watches from the late 1940s, Bulgari’s Serpenti collection has evolved continuously, showcasing the icon’s transformative nature and eternal appeal. This year, as the Serpenti marks its 75th anniversary, Bulgari announced the launch of an arresting jewellery collection to celebrate its seductive icon.
As part of the set, Bulgari is revealing a necklace, ring, pair of earrings, as well as a bracelet later this year. These pieces pay homage to Serpenti creations from the 1950s, when Bulgari applied a new technique called pallini, Italian for spotted.
The goldsmithing technique was named as such because of the unique way in which small, flexible beads were used to adorn the body of these Serpenti creations. For the new designs, Bulgari has soldered hundreds of small gold beads onto a central gold coil to create a graceful and tactile surface.
These gold coils serve as modules, which are then delicately soldered together to form the supple body of the Serpenti, maintaining both flexibility and wearability. Using a combination of sensual rose gold and diamonds on the head and tail, the snake’s hypnotic black onyx eyes highlight its magnetic charm.
With just a quarter of the year of celebrations past, there is much more to be expected of the Serpenti collection in 2023. And as long as Bulgari keeps pushing its own boundaries of creative expression, we can assume nothing short of greater things to come for the Serpenti collection, not just on its 75th anniversary but for many more years to come.
