The annual Venice International Film Festival centres around the best and newest in cinema, with both in- and out-of-competition films making their debuts. While it is parked under the Venice Biennale umbrella (and hence, tend to be artsy in approach) it has become one of the platforms for highly anticipated Hollywood films to begin their awards season endeavours — just like the Cannes and Berlin festivals.

This year is no different. The 79th Venice International Film Festival is slated to screen some of the most talked-about films.

After promising teasers of Ana de Armas’s portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, the film will finally make its debut as part of the competition line-up. Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale — featuring Brendan Fraser as a severely obese teacher — as well as Luca Guadagnino’s second film with Timothée Chalamet, Bones & All, too are set to premiere.

As with other international film festivals of its ilk, that only means that the red carpet at the 79th Venice International Film Festival will also be quite the star-studded event. Actress Julianne Moore will most certainly appear on the red carpet often as the president of the International Jury of the Competition. Other celebrities that could be part of the publicity circuit include de Armas, Chalamet, the always avant-garde Tilda Swinton, and more.

This year’s edition of the Venice International Film Festival runs from 31 August to 10 September. Check back here as we round up some of the best fashion on and off the red carpet throughout the entirety of the festival in the gallery below.
