In a world rife with fast-growing (and just as quick implosions) start-ups, Anna Lim is an anomaly. For 20 years, the former embryologist has quietly built Soup Spoon from one store at Raffles City into a local soup empire that boasts over 20 physical outlets, a range of ready-to-eat packs, and now, expansion to the USA.

It would surprise many to know that Lim had no prior background in F&B before starting Soup Spoon. Many restaurants have come and gone, but Lim remains steadfast through the ups and downs, battling one crisis after another—the latest being the Covid-19 pandemic.

Even after two decades, Lim remains just as passionate about creating a bowl of tasty soup that is the same “yesterday, today and tomorrow”. In this conversation, the effervescent Lim talks about how naysayers fuel her growth and why she still wants to build the Starbucks of soup.

The Lessons We Learnt is a business and luxury lifestyle podcast hosted by editor-in-chief Farhan Shah and entrepreneur Anna Vanessa Haotanto.
