Maison Q, conceived through Suhana Ab’s dress-up play sessions with her daughter, offers reversible kidswear. Its creations comprise dresses, onesies, and shorts, all of which are designed to achieve two different looks to ensure extra mileage.
Launched in 2015, Maison Q is available online and in selected stores in Cambodia, Singapore, and Malaysia. Last October, its collaboration with The St Regis Kuala Lumpur featured exquisite prints inspired by the hotel’s rich natural heritage and its beloved Butler Bear. The range of exclusive merchandise, including apparel and backpacks, is available at the hotel lobby until mid-February.
Suhana, who is a mother of three kids, has these designs produced in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia, where she set up an atelier to employ local artisans. Her pieces are crafted with Oeko-Tex-certified fabrics to ensure that they free of harmful substances. The dyes used in the printing process, too, are environmentally friendly and safe for human health.
“For me, entrepreneurship is all about grit and adaptability. Both qualities keep me determined to overcome often unexpected challenges and forge a path forward.
“When I started my business, I brooded over stuff that didn’t work out. Now, I just remind myself to trust the process. No matter how high the mountains are, what is meant for me will find me.
“Like Maison Q’s collaboration with The St Regis; it reminds me that mountains can be moved. It came about by chance. I’d turned up thinking it was another event space viewing, but ended up saying yes (and figuring out later).
“Maison Q turns 10 in 2025. It has taught me, among other things, to be more assertive. Previously, I feared upsetting others when I gave feedback, but now I recognise the company’s interests come first. I’m better at negotiating, too!
“My team is small, with employees of all ages. I find their insight intriguing. I don’t know everything and I can’t be good at everything. I believe asking for help is a strength rather than a weakness. And ask nicely, please!”
