A pocket-sized, pen-shaped device that uses acupressure and aromatherapy to regulate your mood. Launched by Mudo Labs, The Beem is fitted with a cartridge infused with a botanical blend. To use, simply press it against your cupid’s bow while drawing a breath.
“It’s a combination of nature’s remedies and modern technologies,” says CEO Sophian Abdul Rahman, who acts as strategist, innovator and listener. He also oversees the efforts of the in-house research team, which collaborated with industrial designers, perfumers, and psychologists to create the mood-enhancing tool.
“We’re creating new rituals we hope will be as intuitive as enjoying a morning cup of coffee.”
Sophian Abdul Rahman on incorporating The Beem into our lifestyle
The Beem is designed to engage our five senses as much as possible discreetly and easily. Apart from capturing smell, its shape and weight appeal to sight and touch, and a sound goes off when activated and deactivated. Concurrent engagement of these senses can lead to an increase in focus and calmness.
Singapore was chosen as the launchpad for two reasons. Among the 502 Singaporeans surveyed in focus groups, over half reported experiencing high stress levels. Plus, our city-state registers a forward-thinking mindset. “Singapore’s consumers are discerning trendsetters,” explains Sophian. “They are proactive about their well-being, and are aligned with a mindful and sustainable lifestyle.”
But he’ll have you know that the inaugural product goes beyond enhancing your mood. It’s about realigning your values. “When you pick up The Beem, you’re adopting a vision that makes emotional well-being accessible and scientific,” he says, adding that his favourite blend is The Surge. “It energises me without the need for caffeine.”
Mudo Labs’ mission is simple: to empower individuals with the ability to actively manage their moods instead of being influenced by external factors unfiltered.
The company is already working on expanding its offerings, so customers can expect more solutions that are not only rooted in science, but also steeped in tradition and technology. An example is mood-enhancing platforms. “Our future is full of possibilities,” sums up Sophian.
