Steeped in heritage and culture appeal, the iconic Peninsula Excelsior Singapore along Coleman Street is currently going through a multi-million-dollar refurbishment. First coming to life in 1974 as Peninsula Hotel, it will now be part of the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (WHR) portfolio. The world’s largest hotel franchising company and leading provider of management services with approximately 9,100 hotels in more than 95 countries will work with current owner and operator YTC Hotels on all aspects, including branding, training, operations, and more.

The renamed Peninsula Excelsior Singapore, a Wyndham Hotel, will soft launch in early July 2023. A grand opening is planned for early 2024 after extensive renovations are completed.

“We want to make sure the hotel and the team are fully trained, and prepared to deliver exceptional experiences to new and existing guests,” says Ben Schumacher, vice-president for operations in South East Asia and Pacific Rim.

Beyond its extensive network and operations expertise, WHR is also bringing its famous Count On Me service to the hallways of the new Peninsula. It’s an ethos that encourages every staff member to be responsive and respectful while delivering great experiences to anyone who walks through the door.

With this flagship property, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts Asia Pacific will maintain its strategic and operational presence in Singapore and tap on the strong recovery of local and regional leisure travel. “Singapore is an amazing destination. We are excited to offer an internationally recognised brand in such a popular market to a diverse range of guests from all over the globe,” says Schumacher.

The hotel’s central location was also a huge draw for WHR. Beyond its proximity to the city’s attractions, racing fans staying at the property can take a five-minute walk to enjoy the sights and sounds of the annual Singapore Grand Prix.

The Peninsula Excelsior Singapore, a Wyndham Hotel, won’t be the company’s only offering in the market. Matt Holmes, vice-president for business development in South East Asia and Pacific Rim, alludes to more developments in the future. “We’ve invested heavily in the Singapore market and remain firmly committed to our growth here. We have a variety of brands that suit, and are comparatively under represented compared to some other hotel groups in this market,” says Holmes.

In the meantime, the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts team is focusing on the soft launch of its flagship property. Looking ahead, the company is doubling down on its efforts to further establish a larger presence with its distinctive, upscale, midscale, lifestyle, and value brands in Singapore.
