Many would be familiar with Alicia Keys as the piano-playing, singer-songwriter who gained popularity with her breakthrough album Songs in A Minor. Then there was that song that further catapulted her fame and has pretty much become the adopted theme song of New York City: ‘Empire State of Mind’.
At the recent The Art of Genius event by Moncler during London Fashion Week, Keys once again reminded us of her musicianship as she took to the stage together with British artists Lil Simz and Cleo Sol. But it wasn’t just a mere 20-minute set—the clothes that they all performed in were part of Keys’ first collaboration with Moncler.
The Moncler x Alicia Keys collection—a deviation from the previous naming format for the Moncler Genius collections—is a throwback to the 1990s and with good reason. “Moncler and me go way back to when I was a little kid during those New York winters. A Moncler was something you could see, but not quite reach yet. That high vision of excellence to strive for. This collection is like fulfilling that childhood wish on an epic scale,” expresses Keys.
The vibe and spirit of Moncler x Alicia Keys are definitely New York but designed with a global audience in mind. Baggy silhouettes and bold colourways as nods to the 1990s are central to the collection. Oversized tracksuits, nylon bucket hats, cropped halter tops and shrunken tees complete an aesthetic that’s reminiscent of the early beginnings of streetwear-influenced fashion.
And most importantly, as a reflection of Keys’ own personal sense of style, the Moncler x Alicia Keys collection is completely gender-neutral—something that feels completely New York and contemporary at the same time.
The Moncler x Alicia Keys collection is now available in select Moncler boutiques and moncler.com.
