Tay Chin Nyap is an admirer of brilliant design. The architect has always had a keen eye for detail. To get a sense of his instinct for space, colour, and function, all you have to do is take a look at his renovated one-bedroom apartment.
Of course, the new Maserati Grecale appealed to his aesthetic sensibilities. “I thought the spatial quality was excellent, and I enjoyed the sophisticated look and feel of the finishes,” Tay says. He’s not imagining things. The Grecale has been praised for its best-in-class rear roominess and leg space, thanks to its designers’ obsession with leather, wood, and carbon fibre. Everything you touch conveys quiet luxury.
The engineers didn’t neglect the driving experience. Tay, who spent a day with the Grecale, enjoyed the seamless drive. “It felt like a natural extension of my bodily functions,” he says. In particular, he enjoyed the infotainment system. Just above the gearshift, he could adjust everything from the climate to the drive modes and even the seat position while keeping his eyes on the road.

Although big, the Grecale isn’t a slouch on the roads. The Trofeo variant Tay drove features a V6 Nettuno engine capable of pumping out 530 horsepower. It’s coupled with a mild hybrid propulsion system that takes over when raw performance isn’t needed.
Tay went from the office to the gym and back home with relative ease. “It is a car built for people on the go and for those who work hard and play hard, to use a cliché. “The Grecale is truly the quintessential Italian experience.” Trust an architect to appreciate excellent design.
