Our fascination with Egyptian historical icons continues unabated. Cleopatra is the usual suspect. Her likeness and story have inspired modern-day films, books and even products. Stephan Schmidt went even deeper into history. The current president of Lotos, a luxury eyewear and jewellery maker with an impressive heritage of its own, tapped on ancient Egyptian queen Nefertiti for its latest collection, The Eyes of Nefertiti.
Schmidt saw a bust of Nefertiti in the Neues Museum in Berlin and was so impressed that he integrated the statue’s unique beauty into his new designs. Just like the sculpture, the eyewear features a variety of stunning gemstones set on a marquise-shaped temple.
Just like Nefertiti’s name, which means “A beautiful woman has come” in Egyptian, the collection demands attention with its striking colours and elegant shapes. Like his predecessors, Schmidt insists on hand-crafting all of Lotos’s frames. The result: a collectible piece of eyewear that can stand the test of time, just like Nefertiti.
