Two centuries is a long time to be specialising in just one thing, but German eyewear brand Lotos has been doing exactly that. Founded in Pforzheim in 1872, the family business manufactured watches and jewelled eyewear from solid gold that it produced from its own gold atelier.
Its creations have bedazzled several noble European families, many of whom have kept their designs as heirlooms. The atelier has remained true to its core value—supreme quality with limited production—over the years, not succumbing to the capitalistic tenets of more volume and higher sales. It’s one of the reasons that Lotos has stayed around from one generation to the next.
