There are many different facets to a sustainable model in fashion. And if you’re a storied luxury maison such as Hermès, sustainability can come in the form of exceptional make and quality that are poised to last for a long time.

In the maison’s upcoming exhibition Hermès In The Making, visitors will discover just that. Conceptualised as an open-plan space inspired by an artisan’s workbench, the exhibition will explore four themes that are the foundations of Hermès — preservation and transmission of know-how, respect for and quality of materials, commitment to the long-term, and regional anchoring.

Hermès artisans from four different disciplines will be on-site with their tools, materials, and expertise as they showcase these values. Iconic Hermès favourites such as the Kelly, the always beautiful array of silk scarves, the Hermès H08 watch, the Chaine d’ancre motif on bracelets as well as meticulously hand-painted designs on Hermès porcelain pieces, will all be showcased as examples of the Hermès sustainable model through heightened levels of artisanal craftsmanship.

Aside from the displays of skilled manual dexterity, visitors will also be able to engage in a host of activities. These include workshops focused on dexterity, creating musical compositions using round knives, and colouring. Films from the Footsteps across the World collection produced by documentary filmmaker Frédéric Laffont — which expresses Hermès’ unique connection with sustainable development — will also be screened.

Additionally, two conferences will be held throughout the duration of Hermès In The Making to give a more in-depth insight into craftsmanship and ensuring that the artistry lives on as well as innovation and transmission from the Hermès point-of-view.
