Each May, the French Riviera transforms into a dazzling celebration of cinematic brilliance and high fashion, and the 78th Cannes Film Festival is no exception. This year’s red carpet served as a global runway, spotlighting a captivating blend of Hollywood icons, Bollywood royalty, and beloved K-drama stars.

But beneath the glamour lies a complex code of conduct. The Cannes red carpet is not just a stage for fashion, it’s governed by decades of tradition and increasingly rigid etiquette. In 2025, the festival took this further, announcing: “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival.”

The move codifies an unspoken rule that has long shaped what stars wear: bold fashion is welcome, but within the bounds of what the festival deems “decent.” Voluminous gowns and overly revealing looks, while once tolerated, are now quietly policed under the guise of preserving decorum.

Despite these constraints, Hollywood brought its signature glamour, with Bella Hadid making a dramatic entrance in a sculpted, black Saint Laurent gown, effortlessly marrying edge with elegance, while Heidi Klum looked resplendent in a pink gradient look by Elie Saab.

Among the international style standouts: Thai actress Becky Armstrong turned heads in a sculptural ensemble by Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran and Korean star Kim Go-eun radiated classic elegance in Chanel. These sartorial moments lit up the red carpet, proving once again that Cannes is as much a celebration of style as it is of cinema.
