International sporting events are not uncommon in Singapore. Among our many achievements, we hosted the first Tour de France Criterium in South-east Asia in 2022. This was followed by the Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium 2023. This year’s Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium takes place from 9 to 10 November.

Our growing cycling community makes the Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium an ideal host, says Agnes Goh, Managing Director of Evoke Exp, whose homegrown events consultancy is a co-organiser of the event.

While cycling elites cover an average of 3,500km over three weeks in the Tour de France, the Tour de France Criterium challenges their speed and agility over a shorter race on a closed circuit that’s completed within a single day.

“The first Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium was well received. I remember spectators gathering along various points of the route to watch and cheer their favourite cyclists on,” Goh says.

Singapore, of course, also promises an exciting viewing experience. She asks, “Imagine the speed and intensity of circuit racing in the middle of the city. Wouldn’t you be curious to catch it?”

Singapore hosted the first Tour de France Criterium in South-east Asia in 2022. How did that impact the cycling culture here?

Since then, cycling has become a popular form of recreation and commuting. Singapore’s safe, convenient, and accessible cycling paths have encouraged more people to start cycling.

Our cyclists have also consistently improved competitively. Some are taking part in this year’s race. Our goal with the Singapore Criterium is not only to bring world-class cycling action to our city, but also to inspire the next generation of cyclists here. We hope that racing alongside seasoned professionals will motivate them to grow. Anything is possible in sports!

What are the highlights of this year’s Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium?

We have gathered the world’s best professional cyclists on a specially designed street circuit, so it will be a weekend of thrilling racing action and enticing entertainment off the circuit that takes between 9 and 10 November. Leisure cyclists can also experience the race. Rides catering to different interest and skill levels are open for public sign-ups.

Off the race circuit, there are games, live band performances, F&B booths, family activities, limited Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium merchandise giveaways, and a Race Weekend VIP experience that includes two community rides.

The new route starts and ends at Esplanade Park. In addition, cyclists and spectators can enjoy more stunning views of the city.

Do you have a favourite cyclist?

I am rooting for Jasper Philipsen and Mark Cavendish. Jasper’s dominance and Mark’s historic accomplishments demonstrate cycling’s evolution and enduring appeal. Its
vibrant presence here also fascinates me.

What do you enjoy most about cycling?

I am a recreational cyclist, so I am looking forward to participating in the community rides at the Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium. I enjoy cycling for its mental and physical challenges, but I also enjoy celebrating human performance and achievement at its peak.
