Collectors and connoisseurs have long regarded German watchmaker Sinn as a manufacture that not only provides some of the best value in the market but consistently over-delivers when it comes to features and reliability. Sinn watches are known for being made with durable materials and special treatments that exceed expectations.

One of the company’s latest offerings is a new 1000-piece limited edition rendition of their widely adored U50 diving watch, specifically named U50 DS. Here is a no-nonsense, 41mm dive watch pressure rated and certified for depths of up to 500 meters by DNV, one of Germany’s leading authorities in the matter of industrial validation for ships and marine tools.

The U50 DS’ case and screw-down crown are forged in high-strength and seawater-resistant German Submarine Steel, a robust steel alloy that Sinn has used for a long while now to produce both the regular production U50 and the larger U1 diving watch. In addition, Sinn uses a special hardening process on the case and rotating bezel of the U50 DS, which makes the surface resistant to scratches. Sinn refers to this as Tegiment Technology, which is not just a coating, but a surface treatment at the molecular level.

The U50 DS has a textured dial that has been manually finished with a decorative grinding technique. Its irregular finish creates a stunning display of colours as the material reflects different shades of light across the dial. What’s even more impressive is that every watch is one-of-a-kind because of this unique machining process. Despite the distinct design, the dial is still easy to read and its grey hue seamlessly heightens the watch’s monochromatic flair. Large luminescent indicators pair with luminescent hands to ensure easy legibility regardless of conditions.

Driving the watch is a self-winding Sellita Caliber SW300-1 with stop-seconds function. Sinn has ensured the reliability of its mechanical movement by sealing it against the negative impact of magnetism, in compliance with the DIN 8309 standard. This standard is equivalent to the international ISO 764 standard, which sets out the minimum requirements and tests a wristwatch must pass to be classified as anti-magnetic.

With the U50 DS, Sinn presents an excellent option for anyone in the market for a great versatile daily watch that is more than equipped to take on the perils of everyday life. It also provides horophiles with an excellent view into how the watchmaker can animate future U50 versions to express different personalities. For now, those who desire a sleek, stealthy U50 best make haste to your nearest Sinn purveyor to secure yourself one of the 1000-piece limited edition U50 DS.

The U50 DS is available for purchase at all Watches of Switzerland Singapore boutiques.
