Long Island is gearing up for one of golf’s most prestigious events: the 45th Ryder Cup, scheduled for 26 to 28 September at Bethpage Black Golf Course. This public park course is famous for its first-tee sign that warns casual golfers to turn back.
Taking place every two years, the men’s competition features 12-player teams from Europe and the United States competing in three days of foursomes, fourball, and singles matches, each worth one point towards the Samuel Ryder Trophy.
This special edition celebrates an incredible milestone: it has been 30 years since Rolex became the Official Timekeeper for Team Europe. The partnership blossomed even further in 2021, with Rolex becoming the Worldwide Partner on both sides of the Atlantic as well as the Presenting Partner of the weekly Ryder Cup Points standings that determine qualification.
Throughout the exciting week, the watchmaker will quietly set the week’s rhythm with its signature green and gold hues on official timepieces, scoreboards, and selected hospitality areas. This thoughtful presence reflects a partnership built on the timeless values of golf—integrity and respect.
A shining example of this is when Rolex Testimonee Jack Nicklaus conceded a short putt in 1969, resulting in a tie rather than victory for Team USA. It is one of the most cherished moments in golf and aligns perfectly with Rolex’s commitment to upholding the finest traditions in golf.

In the upcoming Ryder Cup, both teams will be captained by Rolex Testimonees. After leading Europe to victory in 2023, Luke Donald returns carrying an undefeated playing record from four previous appearances. Once again, he will be joined by vice-captain and fellow Rolex Testimonee José María Olazábal.
Keegan Bradley is Team USA’s captain. A Long Island native, Bradley’s previous two Ryder Cup appearances as a player began with an emotional challenge at the 2012 edition in Medinah, Illinois. He considers the captaincy “a prestigious honour” and is eager to reclaim the cup on home soil.
World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, another Rolex Testimonee, tops the American roster and he is looking forward to transition from individual play to team competition. Bethpage Black will be the second New York course to host the Ryder Cup, adding to a resume that includes the 2019 PGA Championship.
The atmosphere is expected to be intense. Recent editions of the event have drawn hundreds of thousands of spectators on-site and millions more on television, making the first tee one of the sport’s most emotionally charged stages.
With Bethpage Black’s narrow fairways and deep bunkers ready, and the captains finalising pairings, the countdown is on. As the starter’s clock strikes zero on 26 September, another chapter in a nearly century-old rivalry will begin, marked by national pride and the Rolex hands keeping official time.
