Moritz Grossmann celebrates Sincere Fine Watches’ 70th anniversary with the launch of the Hamatic Astral Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition. Established in 1954, Sincere Fine Watches has emerged as one of Southeast Asia’s premier purveyors of fine timepieces.

As part of its Platinum Jubilee festivities, the retailer reaffirms its dedication to horological education and appreciation through the introduction of The Horology Lab. Expanding upon the success of the former Sincere Watch Academy, this initiative transcends traditional retail boundaries, fostering an environment where the intricate craft of horology is revered and celebrated.

Running from now to November, The Horology Lab will offer a rich calendar of educational events, structured around three pillars: the Experiential Atelier, providing hands-on workshops with expert watchmakers; Fireside Chats, featuring discussions with industry experts on topics such as iconic timepieces and industry trends; and a series of lectures exploring themes like astronomy, the history of timekeeping, and watch complications. Additionally, Sincere Fine Watches will launch an exclusive series of 12 limited edition Sincere Platinum Jubilee Editions, beginning with the Moritz Grossmann Hamatic Astral Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition.

Saxonian watchmaking maison Moritz Grossmann is buoyed by the legacy of the 19th-century master watchmaker after whom the company is named. Over a century later, watchmaker Christine Hutter rediscovered the Glashütte brand, inspired to revive Grossmann’s legacy. Today, the skilled watchmakers at Moritz Grossmann blend tradition and innovation to create exceptional timepieces that celebrate German craftsmanship.

The exclusive Hamatic Astral Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition, limited to just 10 pieces, celebrates deep-rooted heritage and the art and science of horology. It immediately commands attention with its arresting dial, paired with meticulously crafted rose gold poiré-shaped hands. The dial is made of goldstone, marking the first instance of the watchmaker using this material. The process of producing goldstone, developed in the 17th century, involves mixing crystalline flakes of copper into molten glass. The mixture is then cast into the desired form before being cut, cooled, and polished. The resulting dial has a sense of translucent depth, amplified by the specks of copper scattered across its volume, resembling stars on a moonless night.

The Hamatic Astral’s brilliance continues on its movement side, visible through the expansive display caseback. The calibre 106.0 pays homage to pioneering 18th-century watchmakers who devised the world’s first self-winding mechanism using a “hammer-style” pendulum. This contemporary interpretation features an automatic hammer mechanism that operates in both directions through the interaction of the hammer body, head, and spring, with a sapphire roller transferring oscillations between the hammer spring and body. It efficiently handles two scenarios: fast movements, where excessive deflections are controlled by end springs in the hammer frame to prevent damage, and gentle movements, where energy transmission is nearly loss-free, ensuring smooth operation even with low hammer amplitude.

In addition to its self-winding capability, the watch features a manual winding function facilitated by a yoke winder mounted on a separate bridge. This design ensures that the manual winder remains disengaged from the ratchet wheel when the Hamatic system is activated by motion. In manual winding mode, the reduction gear is isolated from the ratchet wheel by a click-pawl idler, preventing damage from unforeseen accidents and user error.

Beyond its technical mastery, the calibre 106.0 is visually stunning, showcasing intricate micro-engineering in steel and honey-hued untreated German silver. One can easily admire the Grossmann plate with six Glashütte stripes, hand engraved balance cock,  double-band snailing on the mainspring barrel and raised gold chatons with pan-head screws.

The Hamatic Astral Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition is a superb tribute to the heritage of horology and a testament to Moritz Grossmann’s watchmaking prowess. It also serves as a perfect commemoration of Sincere Fine Watches’ 70th anniversary.

The Hamatic Astral Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition is retailing at $102,000 and available for purchase at all Sincere Fine Watches boutiques.
